"True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin." ㅡ Malachi 2:6" 그 입에는 진리의 법이 있었고 그 입술에는 불의함이 없었으며 그가 화평과 정직함 중에서 나와 동행하며 많은 사람을 돌이켜 죄악에서 떠나게 하였는니    라"(말라기 2:6)These words about the tribe of Levi tell us what an influence we can have when we have integrity. Integrity is when everything about us in alignment. Levi's actions were both righteous and peaceful, and they matched Levi's words. The Levites not only avoided being dishonest; they sought to help others understand the truth.  레위 지파에 관한 위의 말씀은 성실함이 있을 때 가질 수 있는 영향력이 무엇인지를 우리에게 알려줍니다. 성실함은 우리에 관한 모든 것들이 정연하다는 뜻입니다. 레위인들의 행동은 의롭고 평화로웠으며, 그들은 언행이 일치되었습니다. 레위인들은 부정직함을 피했을 뿐 아니라, 그들은 다른 이들이 진리를 이해하도록 도우려 애썼습니다.Because the Levites' words and actions were aligned, people were drawn away from sin. Integrity is powerfully  attractive. A lack of integrity turns people away. In Malachi's day, the priestsㅡthat is, the Levitesㅡneeded this reminder. God was saying that if they wanted to see God's blessings again, they needed to live with integrity. Integrity would draw other people to be like them. Sometimes we say the right things, but the way we live or the attitude we carry is not aligned with our words. Other times our behavior is good, but our words might be cruel or vulgar.오늘날 기독교인들은 말라기 시대의 하나님의 백성들과 같이 성실의 문제를 놓고 씨름하고 있습니다. 때때로 우리는 바른 말을 합니다. 그러나 삶의 방식과 수행하는 태도는 우리의 말과 일치하지 않습니다. 또한 다른 때, 우리의 행위는 선하지만, 말은 잔인하거나 저속할 수 있습니다.Integrity would be impossible except for four little words in the example of Levi. "My covenant was with [Levi], a covenant of life and peace." ㅡ Malachi 2:5"레위와 세운 나의 언약은 생명과 평강의 언약이라" (말라기 2:5) God's discipline is meant to restore his people to himself. God has "a covenant of life and peace" with his people, and he longs to restore that relationship. But life and peace do not come easily in this broken world. The covenant with Levi began when the Israelites worshiped a golden calf and ran wild with disobedience. Moses said, "whoever is for the Lord, come to me. "And all the Levites rallied to him"(Exodus 32:26). The Levites became a sort  of police force to restore God's order from chaos. From then on, the reverence shown by the Levites was an indicator of God's restoring his relationship with his people.하나님의 훈계는 백성을 하나님께로 돌이키려는 의도를 내포하고 있습니다. 하나님은 그의 백성들과 "생명과 평화의 언약"을 맺고 계시며, 그 관계가 회복되기를 고대하고 계십니다. 그러나 깨어진 이 세상에 생명과 평화는 쉽게 오지 않습니다. 이스라엘 백성들이 금송아지를 숭배하며 불순종으로 치달았을 때, 레위와의 언약이 시작되었습니다. Once that sounded oppressive to me; now it sounds like the greatest freedom. I am addicted to sin, and death is a continual threat to my life and peace. But through the Holy Spirit, Jesus weans me from those evil powers. When we learn to live in humble community together, submitting to each other's guidance in Christ, we receive a life and peace that few others ever know. If you do not listen, and if you do not resolve to honor my name," says the Lord Almighty, "I will send a curse on you." ㅡ Malachi 2:2만군의 여호와가 이르노라, "너희가 만일 듣지 아니하며 마음에 두지 아니하여 내 이름을 영화롭게 하지 아니하면 내가 너희에게 저주를 내리리라"(말라기 2:2). Throughout the book of Malachi, God is called "the Lord Almighty." "The Lord"(with small capital letters) stands for God's covenant name Yahweh, and it means, "I am who I am"(Gen. 3:14). So this name, "the Lord Almighty," reminds us that God is the all-powerful, loving  God who actively cares for us. In the New Testament this is captured in  the words "Jesus is Lord." The supreme Lord came to rescue us, because that's the kind of God he is (see Col. 1:15-20).말라기서를 통하여, 하나님은 "만군의 여호와"라고 불립니다. "여호와"(대문자)는 하나님의 언약의 이름인 여호와를 의미하며, 그 뜻은 "나는 스스로 있는자"(출 3:14)입니다. 따라서 "만군의 여호와"라는 이름은, 하나님은 우리를 적극적으로 보살피시는 전능하신 사랑의 하나님이심을 상기시킵니다. 이것은 신약성경에서 "예수는 주"라는 말에서 드러납니다. 최고의 주께서 우리를 구하러 오셨습니다. 왜냐하면 그분은 바로 그러한 하나님이시기 때문입니다(참조, 골 1:15-20).Our actions, too, stem from our character, and sometimes our actions show the truth of our hearts more clearly than our words do. Malachi reminds us that our actions should come from a heart set on God. When our actions come from anywhere else, they will be cursed by God. This means they won't bring the results we were hoping for. God will intervene. Sometimes God intervenes through natural processes, bringing foolish actions to commonsense defeat or failure. And sometimes God intervenes supernaturally. God can instantly squash even the craftiest acts of rebellion. 우리의 행동 역시 우리 성품으로부터 나옵니다. 때때로 우리의 행동은 우리의 말보다 우리 마음의 진실을 더욱 분명히 보여줍니다. 말라기는 우리의 행동이 하나님께 뿌리를 둔 마음에서 비롯되어야 한다는 사실을 상기시킵니다. 하나님이 아닌 다른 곳에서 우리 행동들이 비롯될 때, 그 행위들은 하나님께 저주를 받을 것입니다. 이 말은 그 행동들은 우리가 기대하고 있는 결과를 가져오지 않을 것임을 의미합니다. 하나님이 개입하실 것입니다. 때때로 하나님은 자연스러운 과정을 통하여 개입하셔서, 어리석은 행동들로 인하여 패배와 실패를 경험하게 하십니다. 또한 때때로 하나님은 초자연적으로 개입하십니다. 하나님은 가장 교활한 반역조차도 즉각적으로 물리치실 수 있습니다. Rather than rebel against our God and King, we ought to seek his will in prayer. He may guide us by way of Scripture or by a nudge of the Holy Spirit. He may move us to act humbly without clear direction. But he will always stand behind a heart that is set on honoring him.왕이신 우리 하나님께 반역을 꾀하느니, 오히려 우리는 기도로 그 분의 뜻을 구해야 합니다. 그는 성경의 길로 혹은 성령의 찔림으로 우리를 인도하실 수 있습니다. 그는 명확한 방향을 제시하지 않으시며 우리로 겸손히 행하게 하실 수도 있습니다. 그러나 그는 하나님을 높이도록 촉구된 마음 뒤에 항상 서 계실 것입니다.PRAYER (기도)Dear Jesus, help us to know your will. "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar!" ㅡ Malachi 1:10 "너희가 내 단위에 헛되이 불사르지 못하게 하기 위하여 너희 중에 성전 문을 닫을 자가 있었으면 좋겠도다!"(말라기 1:10) How horrible that God wanted his own temple doors closed! This is one of the strongest biblical warnings about worship. If our worship isn't really about loving and honoring God, it won't do any good to go through the motions.하나님께서 자신의 성전 문을 닫기 원하신다는 것은 참으로 끔찍한 일입니다. 이 말씀은 성경 중 예배에 관한 가장 강한 경고 중 하나입니다. 만약 우리 예배가 진정으로 하나님을 사랑하며 존중하는 것이 아니라면, 그 행위를 치르러 나가는 것은 아무 유익이 없을 것입니다.  the Israelites thought their worship was about God. They came to the temple to win God's favor and seek God's helpㅡwasn't that all about God?이스라엘 백성들은 그들의 예배가 하나님에 관한 것이었다고 생각했습니다. 그들은 하나님의 호의를 얻고 하나님의 도움을 구하고자 성전에 나왔습니다. 그것이 하나님에 관한 것이었을까요?Many people of many religions, including many Christians, approach worship the same way. Often they are very concerned about the manner of worship. "We have to get this right," they think, "or God will be upset with us, won't answer our prayers, and might bring bad things upon us." Unfortunately they don't realize their thinking and their efforts are not really about God. If we worship that way, it is really about usㅡwhat we can get for ourselves from God.많은 기독교인을 포함한 많은 종교를 가진 사람들은 같은 식으로 예배에 참석합니다. 종종 그들은 예배 형식에 큰 관심을 둡니다. "바르게 해야해." 그들은 그렇게 생각합니다. He knows that such worship is not worship at all; it's only an attempt to manipulate him. When God says that his "name is to be feared among the nations," he wants us to be awestruck by his love for usㅡso awestruck that we cannot help praising him. That's the kind of fearㅡthat is, awe, wonder, and amazement at God's great loveㅡthat should engage our worship.물론 하나님은 우리의 이기적인 동기를 살피십니다. 그는 그러한 예배는 전혀 예배가 아님을 아십니다. 그것은 하나님을 조종하려는 시도에 불과합니다. "Now plead with God to be gracious to us. With such offerings from your hands, will he accept you?" says the Lord Almighty.  - Malachi 1:9 만군의 여호와가 이르노라 "너희는 나 하나님께 은혜를 구하기를 우리를 긍휼히 여기소서 하여 보라 너희가 이같이 행하였으니 내가 너희 중 하나인들 받겠느냐?"((말라기 1:9) God is not petty. He does not expect that we will ever come close to repaying him for what he has done for us. Yet God is not to be mocked either. The tone of today's verses reminds us that God will not tolerate our poor treatment of him. If we are not willing to give him our best, we cannot expect him to accept our efforts.하나님은 옹졸하신 분이 아닙니다. 하나님은 우리를 위해 행하신 일에 대하여 우리가 되갚기를 거의 기대하시지 않습니다. 그렇다고 하나님은 조롱 당하시지 않습니다. 오늘 말씀의 어조는 하나님께서 자신에 대한 우리의 형편없는 대우를 참지 않으시리란 사실을 우리에게 상기시키십니다. 만약에 우리가 최선의 것을 기꺼이 하나님께 드리려하지 않는다면, 우리는 하나님께서 우리의 노력을 받으시리라 기대해서는 안됩니다.Christianity can sometimes seem confusing. Our God is not concerned so much with what we do but why we do it. God looks deep into our hearts. He honors the smallest gift that was lovingly given. But he rejects the largest gifts that were given half-heartedly or out of a sense of obligation or fear.   기독교는 때때로 혼란스러워 보일 수 있습니다. 우리 하나님은 우리가 무엇을 행하는지 보다는 왜 그리하는지에 더 관심을 가지십니다. 하나님은 우리 마음 속을 깊이 들여다 보십니다. 하나님께서는 사랑으로 드리는 작은 헌신을 귀히 보십니다. 그러나 무성의함이나 의무감이나 두려운 마음에 드리는 큰 선물도 거절하십니다.  This doesn't mean that people with even the best intentions never do unkind things or offer bad gifts. God needs to correct even our best intentions. But the correction he gives to a right heart is gentle and much easier to receive.최선의 의도를 지닌 사람들이 무례한 행동을 결코 행하지 않거나 조악한 헌물을 드리지 않는다는 의미가 아닙니다. 우리의 최선의 의도조차도 하나님께 교정받아야 합니다. 그러나 올바른 마음을 지닌 자에게 주시는 교정은 온유하며 훨씬 받아들이기 쉽습니다.In contrast, when our heart is in the wrong place, correction comes with greater difficulty. The misguided heart will eventually have to choose between God and whatever else competes with him. There will be heartache over whichever side loses. But it's far better that we eventually sacrifice the other that attachments of our heart than we reject God and later be rejected by him forever.반대로, 우리 마음이 엉뚱한데 있을 때, 하나님의 교정은 훨씬 어렵게 다가옵니다. 그릇된 마음은 하나님과 하나님과 경쟁관계에 있는 여타의 무엇인가와의 사이에서 궁극적으로 선택해야만 합니다. 어느 편을 잃든지 가슴 아픈 일이 생길 것입니다. 그러나 하나님을 거절하여 후에 하나님으로부터 영원히 거절을 당하는 것보다는 우리 마음의 여타의 집착을 희생하는 편이 훨씬 낫습니다.PRAYER (기도)Dear Father, in your love you did not spare your greatest treasure for us your Son, Jesus. Yet our hearts are often divided between you and other things. Help us to be devoted to you alone. Amen.존귀하신 아버지, 주의 사랑으로 우리를 위해 주의 가장 값진 보물이신, 주의 아들 예수님을 아끼지 않으셨습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 우리 마음은 종종 주와 다른 세상 것들 사이에서 나뉩니다. 오직 주께 헌신하게 도와주옵소서. 아멘. 

"Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?" says the Lord Almighty. ㅡ Malachi 1:8  만군의 여호와가 이르노라, "이제 그것을 너희 총독에게 드려보라! 그가 너를 기뻐하겠느냐 너를 가납하겠는냐?" (말라기 1:8) God is our greatest authority. We wouldn't give our earthly authorities our scraps. Yet so often we offer God the leftover portions of our time, money, energy, thought, and emotion. He gets the scraps and rejects ㅡ just as the Israelites were offering the worst of their animals in sacrifice.하나님은 우리의 가장 큰 권위자십니다. 우리는 이 땅의 권위자들에게 우리의 찌꺼기를 주지 않을 것입니다. 그러나 우리는 너무도 자주 하나님께 우리의 시간, 돈, 에너지, 생각과 감정의 짜투리를 드립니다. 하나님은 찌꺼기와 거절을 받으십니다. 마치 이스라엘 백성들이 희생 제물로 가장 나쁜 짐승을 드렸던 것처럼 말입니다.It must have been a burden to care for a blind or lame animal. The temptation to sacrifice such an animal would be very real. Wouldn't a blind or lame animal suit God's purposes just as well as any other animal?눈멀거나 저는 짐승을 보살피는 일은 부담스러운 일이었음에 틀림없습니다. 그러한 동물을 제물로 드리려는 유혹은 참으로 현실적인 일이었습니다. 눈 멀거나 저는 짐승도 다른 여타의 짐승처럼 하나님의 목적에 부합되지 않을까요?We face a similar temptation. We pray with the five extra minutes we might have and aren't sure what else we can do with that time. We help with a service project on a Saturday that is "free" on our calendar. We're happy to tithe as long as we have some disposable income. We read that deep religious book if we're in between novels.우리도 비슷한 유혹에 직면합니다. 우리에게 주어진 5분의 짜투리 시간에 기도하며 사실 그 시간으로는 그 외의 어떤 일도 할 수 없을 것입니다. 우리는 달려겡 스케줄이 잡히지 않은 토요일 봉사를 합니다. 우리는 가용한 수입이 있을 때나 기쁘게 십일조를 합니다. 우리는 소설들을 읽는 중간에 깊은 종교 서적을 읽습니다.We have to admit, though, that extras aren't really sacrifices. When we willingly sacrifice time, money, or energy that have value to us, it settles the greater value of God into our hearts and minds. God sacrificed his only Son for us. Certainly he is far more worthy of our best than any earthly authority.   그러나 짜투리를 드리는 것은 진정한 희생이 아님을인정해야 합니다. 우리에게 소중한 시간, 금전, 힘을 기꺼이 희생할 때, 우리의 마음과 생각에 하나님을 더 소중히 모시는 것입니다. 하나님은 우리를 위하여 독생자를 희생하셨습니다. 확실히 그는 이 땅의 어떠한 권세보다 훨씬 더 소중하신 분입니다. Are you giving your best to him?여러분은 그분께 여러분의 최고의 것을 드리고 있습니까?PRAYER (기도)Dear Jesus, please forgive us for not treating you according to your full value. We want you to have our best. We want you to have our extras too. We want to be fully yours. Amen.존귀하신 예수님, 주의 온전하신 가치에 걸맞게 주를 섬기지 못했음을 용서해 주옵소서. 우리의 최고의 것을 받으시기를 원합니다. 그리고 우리의 나머지까지 다 받으시기를 원합니다. 우리는 온전히 주의 소유가 되기를 원합니다. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

"But you ask, 'How have we defiled you?' "By saying that the Lord's table is contemptible." -Malachi 1:7"그러나 너희는 묻기를, '우리가 어떻게 주를 더럽게 하였나이까?' 이는 너희가 주의 상을 경멸히 여길 것이라 말함을 인함이니라." (말라기 1:7) We noted that the priests were damaging God's reputation. Today's verses give a bit more detail. The priests of Israel were carrying out their religion half-heartedly. A young man treats his girlfriend to a fancy restaurant even through he knows she would be satisfied with less. Love prompts us toward extravagance.우리가 누군가와 진짜 사랑에 빠졌다면, 우리는 사랑하는 사람을 위해 우리가 할 수 있는 최대한을 할 수 있다는 것을 보여주기 위해 우리 자신을 시험합니다. 한 젊은이는 자신의 여자친구가 바라는 것보다 훨씬 더 좋은 식당에서 그녀에게 식사 대접을 합니다. 사랑은 과도함을  쫓도록 우리를 자극합니다.Fear pushes the opposite way. When we fear someone, we try to get away with giving less than they deserves. It's sinful, but we tend to hurt those who we fear might hurt us.두려움은 우리를 반대 방향으로 몰아갑니다. 우리가 누군가를 두려워한다면, 우리는 그들이 마땅히 받아야 하는 것보다 덜 주려고 교묘히 노력합니다. 그것은 죄이지만, 우리는 두려운 나머지 우리를 해치려하는 이들을 해치는 경향이 있습니다.In the book of Malachi, God explains that he is the loving Father of his people. He doesn't want them to be afraid of him. He wants love and respect. God wants the people to know that he's not out to hurt them. But they have been acting as if he were. He's not satisfied with our misunderstanding or thinking he's out to get us. Sacrifices offered out of fear show God that we don't understand him. "It is you priests who show contempt for my name. But you ask, How have we shown contempt for your name?" - Malachi 1:6"내 이름을 멸시하는 제사장들아 --- 너희는 이르기를, '우리가 어떻게 주의 이름을 멸시하였나이까?' 하는도다." (말 1:6) In Israel's day, the priests were supposed to lead the people to have a good relationship with God. But at the time of Malachi they were actually influencing the people to despise God's name. People respected God less because of the way the priests treated God.고대 이스라엘 시대에, 제사장들은 백성들이 하나님과 바른 관계를 갖도록 인도하는 역할을 하는 사람들이었습니다. 그러나 말라기 시대에, 사실상 그들은 백성들이 하나님의 이름을 경멸하도록 영향을 주었습니다. 제사장들의 하나님에 대한 태도 때문에 백성들은 오히려 하나님을 덜 존경했습니다.God's name is God's reputation, and it's very important. It's how we think about him. Sometimes God's people portray him as angry and mean. Other times we portray him as being weak, or unfair, or uncaring. Though God may become angry, his anger doesn't last, and his love returns. He is the one, true, holy God who offers us salvation from sin. "You will see it with your own eyes and say, "Great is the Lordㅡeven beyond the borders of Israel." ㅡ Malachi 1:5"너희는 목도하고 이르기를 여호와께서는 이스라엘 지경 밖에서 크시다 하리라."(말라기 1:5) The people of Edom, the descendants of Esau, may have thought they could undo what God had done. They didn't consider themselves God's children, so why would Israel's God pay attention to them?에서의 자손인 에돔 백성들은 하나님이 하신 일을 자신들이 무효화 할 수 있다고 생각했던 것 같습니다. 그들은 자신들이 하나님의 자녀라 생각하지 않습니다. 그런데 이스라엘의 하나님이 왜 그들에게 관심을 갖겠습니까?Everyone has times when they'd like to think God isn't paying attention. Even people who believe in God sometimes act as if God doesn't see them. The people of Israel were feeling that way too. God pointed out that he was paying attentionㅡeven to people who didn't believe in him, like the nation of Edom in Israel's day. If God was paying attention to Edom, he was certainly also paying attention to Israel, and he pays attention to us today.  모든 사람들은 하나님이 자신들에게 관심을 갖고 있지 않다고 생각하려 할 때가 있습니다. 때때로 하나님을 믿는 사람들조차 하나님께서 그들을 못보시는 듯이 행동합니다. 이스라엘 사람들 역시 그렇게 느끼고 있었습니다. 하나님은 고대 이스라엘 시대의 에돔과 같이 믿지 않던 백성들에게도 관심을 기울이고 계셨음을 언급하셨습니다. 하나님께서 에돔에게 관심을 보이셨다면, 이스라엘은 물론이고 오늘날 우리 역시 분명히 관심을 기울이십니다. Many nations and people in the world todayㅡin the west, east, north, and southㅡ have a strained relationship with Christ Jesus, the heavenly King of this world. Often we can see with our own eyes the problems caused by not following the one true God of love, joy, and peace. That reminds us that God is paying attention to nations as well as to individuals. He also pays attention to those close to him and to those far away from him. So we should pay attention to God too and serve him as best we can. "You ask, 'How have you loved us?" "Was not Esau Jacob's brother?" declares the Lord. "Yet I have loved Jacob, but Esau I have hated ---"  ㅡ Malachi 1:2-3"너희는 이르기를, '주께서 어떻게 우리를 사랑하셨습니까?' 하는도다. 나 여호와가 말하노라. "에서는 야곱의 형이 아나냐? 그러나 내가 야곱을 사랑하였고 에서는 미워하였으며 ---" (말라기 1:2-5)God's love is not a copy of human love. Sadly, human love is often only a poor copy of God's love, and that causes some confusion when we see God acting or speaking in ways that we might think are not very loving. We like to assume that God's love should meet our approval instead of the other way around. 하나님의 사랑은 인간 사랑의 복사본이 아닙니다. 슬프게도, 인간 사랑은 보통 하나님 사랑의 조악한 복사본에 불과합니다. 헌데 우리가 생각하기에 그렇게 사랑스럽지 않은 방식으로 하나님께서 행하시고 말씀하시는 것을 우리가 보게 될 때, 그것은 다소 혼란을 줍니다. 우리는 우리의 사랑이 하나님의 인정을 받아야 하는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 사랑이 우리의 인정을 받아야 한다고 생각하려 합니다. God's comment on Esau is confusing in this way. Jacob and Esau were brothers, but for unstated reasons God chose to accept Jacob and reject Esau. This goes back to the story of Jacob and Esau from Genesis 27. Their father, Isaac, being deceived by Rebekah and Jacob, pronounced a lavish blessing on Jacob but only a limited one on Esau.이런 차원에서, 에서에 대한 하나님의 언급은 혼란스럽습니다. 야곱과 에서는 형제였습니다. 그러나 설명되지 않는 이유로, 하나님은 야곱을 받아들이고 에서를 거부하기로 결정했습니다. 이것은 창세기 27장의 야곱과 에서의 이야기에 그 근원을 두고 있습니다. 리브가와 야곱에게 속은, 그들의 아버지 이삭은 야곱을 마음껏 축복했으나 에서에게는 제한된 축복만을 했습니다. This is actually a very important lesson about love. Many of us think of love as a feeling that might lead to certain choices. But real love, God's kind of love, is actually a choice that leads to feelings.이것은 실제로 사랑에 대한 매우 중요한 교훈입니다. 우리 대다수는 사랑이 어떤 선택으로 이끄는 감정이라 생각합니다. 그러나 하나님의 사랑과 같은 진실한 사랑은 실제로 감정이 이끄는 선택입니다.These verses in Malachi are saying that God made a loving choice of Jacob(through no merit on Jacob's part) but not of Esau. Through Jacob, God worked out his plan of salvation that led to Jesus. We might never know the reason for that choice, but we do know that God's love is not led by feelings. We also know that God is not in the habit of rejecting anyone who sincerely wants to be chosen by him. "I have loved you," says our loving God.말라기에서 이 부분이 말하는 바는, 하나님이 에서가 아니라 야곱을 사랑하기로 결정하셨다는 것입니다(야곱의 공로때문이 아니라). 야곱을 통하여, 하나님은 예수님께로 인도하는 구원의 계획을 실행하셨습니다. 우리는 그 선택의 이유를 결코 알지 못할런지 모르지만, 우리는 하나님의 사랑이 감정에 의하여 이끌림 받는 것이 아니란 사실을 압니다. 우리는 또한 하나님이 선택받기를 진심으로 원하는 사람을 거절하는 습관이 있는 그런 분이 아니란 사실을 압니다.  우리 사랑의 하나님께서 말씀하십니다. A prophecy: The word of the Lord to Israel through Malachi. "I have loved you," says the Lord. ㅡ Malachi 1:1-2a여호와께서 말라기로 이스라엘에게 말씀하신 경고라. 여호와께서 가라사대, "내가 너희를 사랑하였노라"(말 1:1-2a).The name Malachi means "my messenger." God has a message for his people, and he wants to make sure they take it seriously from the start. This is a prophecy, God says; this is my word through my messenger. God even uses his covenant name, which in the Hebrew text is YHWH(Yahweh). In English we often render it as "the Lord"(with small capital letters). This is the name God used to describe himself when he made a covenant with his people through Moses (see EX. 3:10-20). Then, in the message through Malachi, God adds again, "says the Lord," making clear that this is important.말라기라는 이름은 "나의 사자"라는 의미입니다. 하나님은 그의 백성들을 위한 메시지가 있었으며, 백성들이 시작부터 그것을 진지하게 받아들이고 있다는 사실을 확실히 하기 원하십니다. 그것은  '내 사자를 통하여 전하는 나의 말'이라고 하는 하나님의 예언입니다. 하나님은 히브리 원문에서 YHWH(여호와)라는 자신의 언약의 이름을 사용하기까지 합니다. 영어로 이 단어를 우리는 보통 대문자 주님이라 표기합니다. 이것은 하나님께서 모세를 통해 백성들과 언약을 맺으셨을 때, 자신을 묘사하는데 사용했던 바로 그 이름입니다(출 3:10-20 참조). 말라기를 통한 메시지에서, 하나님은 이 점을 분명히 하려고 "주께서 말씀하시기를"이라는 말을 다시 추가하십니다.So what is this important message that God makes such a big deal of? Very simply, it is "I have loved you." And behind each one they are wondering, "How have you loved us?" God always has an answer, and he has never once let his love slip, not even for a moment.말라기서의 다른 부분을 통해서, 하나님의 백성들은 하나님께서 많은 질문을 합니다. 그 각각의 질문 이면에서, 그들은 "하나님은 어떻게 우리를 사랑하셨지?" 하고 의아해 합니다. 하나님에게는 항상 변치 않으시는 한가지 대답이 있습니다. 그는 한번도, 아니 단 한 순간조차도 그의 사랑을 놓지 않으셨습니다.  God loves you, even if you aren't sure that he does. Even if you don't really know him yet. Even if you know him but  have been resisting him or living in rebellion against him. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective ... ㅡ James 5:16의인의 간구는 역사하는 힘이 큼이니라 (약 5:16) In the book Huckleberry Finn, the main character ㅡ Huck, as he was called ㅡ needed fishhooks. Someone had told him that God always answers prayers, so for three days Huck Finn prayed for fishhooks. But he received none. So he concluded: "There ain't nothing in it."   소설 '허클베리 핀'의 주인공 헉은 낚싯대가 갖고 싶었습니다. 누군가 하나님이 항상 기도에 응답한다고 알려주자, 3일 동안 낚싯대를 구하는 기도를 합니다. 하지만, 사흘이 지나도 낚싯대를 얻지 못했습니다. 그래서 헉은 "기도해 봐야 소옹없네"라고 생각합니다. James tells us that the prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective. Jesus said that if we ask anything in his name, he will do it. In Isaiah 65:24 we're told that God answers before we even call on him. And yet there seem to be so many unanswered prayers. We pray for healing, but healing doesn't happen. We ask for open doors, but one door after another slams shut. We plead with God to help us overcome an addiction, but there's no change.야고보는 의인의 간구가 역사하는 힘이 크다고 말씀합니다. 예수님은 우리가 그분의 이름으로 구하는 것은 무엇이든지 허락하겠노라 하셨습니다. 이사야서 65장 24절에서는 우리가 부르기 전에 하나님께서 응답하신다고 말씀합니다. 하지만 응답받지 못한 기도가 많은 것처럼 보입니다. 치유함의 역사를 구하기 위해 기도하지만, 나음을 얻지 못합니다. 문을 열어주시기를 구하지만, 문이 계속 닫히기만 합니다. 중독에서 빠져나오게 도와달라고 간청하지만 삶에 아무런 변화가 없습니다.Does God answer prayer? Of course he does. But prayer is not meant to give us anything we might want. God promises to give what we ask for when we ask in line with his will for our lives and for his world (1 John 5:14-15). 하나님이 기도에 응답하나요? 물론 응답해 주십니다. 그러나 기도란 우리가 원하는 모든 것을 허락하신다는 의미가 아닙니다. 하나님께서는 우리 삶과 그분의 나라를 향한 그분의 뜻대로 구할 때, 우리가 구한 것을 허락하신다고 약속하셨습니다(요일 5:14-15).We pray in order to connect with God and to share how thankful we are for who he is and all he has done for us. Praying is our communication line with the Lord. He hears all our prayers and answers them according to our needs and according to his will.우리는 하나님과 연합하기 위해 기도하며, 우리에게 하나님 되심으로 인해 얼마나 감사한지, 우리를 위해 행하신 그 모든 것에 감사하는마음을 나누기 위해 기도합니다. 기도란 우리가 주님과 소통하는 창입니다. 하나님께서는 우리의 모든 기도를 들어주시고, 우리의 필요와 그분의 뜻에 따라 그 기도에 응답해 주십니다. PRAYER (기도)Thank you, Lord, for hearing us and for answering our prayers. Help us to understand that you know exactly what we need, and that you answer our prayers accordingly. Amen. 주님, 우리의 기도를 들어주시고 응답해주셔서 감사합니다. 우리가 필요로 하는 것이 무엇인지 알고 계시는 주님께서 하나님의 뜻에 따라 우리의 기도에 응답하여 주신다는 것을 깨닫게 하소서. 아멘.

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. ㅡ James 5:16이러므로 너희 죄를 서로 고하며 병 낫기를 위하여 서로 기도하라 (약 5:15-16) I remember a day when I jumped to a faulty conclusion and yelled at our six-year-old daughter for something she did not do. I needed to apologize. Following our family pattern, I found my self saying I was sorry and then sitting on the time-out bench!  Apologizing to my child was surprisingly awkward, but it helped establish a trust we still enjoy today as adults. Our relationships will be closer if we can share our brokennessㅡ there is an intimacy that comes from confession. 내가 성급히 잘못된 결론을 내려서 여섯살 난 딸이 하지도 않은 일에 대하여  소리를 질렀던 어떤 날을 기억합니다. 나는 그 일에 대하여 사과해야만 했습니다. 우리 가족이 평소에 하던대로 나는 사과하고 벌 받는 의자에 앉아 있었습니다. 내 아이에게 사과한다는 것은 참으로 거북했습니다. 그러나 그 일은 오늘 아직 어른이 되어서도 우리가 누리는 신뢰 관계를 만들 수 있도록 도와주었습니다. 우리가 우리의 상한 마음을 나눌 수 있다면 그 관계는 더 가까워 질 것입니다. 고백함으로 오는 친밀함이 바로 그것입니다.   No one enjoys admitting they are wrong. We hope our spouse or kids or friends will overlook our shortcomings and not call us out for our inconsistencies. We want to preserve the illusion of having our life pulled together. No one wants to say, "I was wrong, and I'm sorry!"누구도 자신이 틀리다는 것을 인정하는 것이 유쾌하지 않습니다. 우리는 우리 배우자, 자녀, 혹은 친구들이 우리의 단점을 간과하고 우리의 모순에 대하여 큰 소리를 지르지 않기를 바랍니다. 우리는 우리의 인생이 언제나 차분히 정돈되어 있다는 환상을 유지하고 싶어합니다. 누구도 "내가 틀렸어요. 미안해요"라고 말하고 싶어하지 않습니다.But by avoiding those painful words, we miss the blessing that follows. When a wound is cleaned, the healing can begin. If we live with sin festering in our life, we miss the healing and wholeness that God has made available to us.그러나 그런 고통스런 말들을 피한다면 우리는 그 일 후에 올 축복을 놓치게 됩니다. 상처가 씻기면 치유가 시작될 수 있습니다. 그러나 만약 우리가 우리 삶에 곪고있는 죄를 지니고 살아간다면 우리는 하나님이 우리에게 베푸시고자 하는 치유와 건강을 놓치게 됩니다.James tells us the next step after confession is also important for healing ㅡwe must also pray for each other. It's hard to be angry with someone for whom we are honestly praying. By asking God to work through each other to advance his kingdom, we might find we can forgive as we have been forgiven.   야고보는 고백이 치유에 중요하다고 말한 후에 다음 단계를 말해 줍니다. 우리는 또한 서로를 위해 기도해야 한다는 것입니다. 우리가 진정으로 기도하고 있는 누군가에게 화를 내기는 어렵습니다. 하나님 나라 확장을 위해 서로를 통하여 역사하시도록 하나님께 기도함으로써 우리는 우리가 용서받은 것처럼 우리도 용서할 수 있음을 알게 됩니다.PRAYER (기도)Gracious Lord, grant us the courage to admit our failings and to confess them to one another. Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. ㅡ James 5:14그는 교회의 장로들을 청할 것이요 그들은 주의 이름으로 기름을 바르며 그를 위하여 기도할지니라 (약 5:14) When I learned that my cancer had returned, it was just a few days before a significant youth event that I was coordinating at our church. So I decided to keep the news close, in a small circle, and not distract people from the ministry event. My colleague, however, pleaded with me to let the elders and the church family pray.암이 재발했다는 소식을 들었을 때, 우리 교회에서 기획하고 있던 중요한 청년부 행사를 며칠 앞둔 상황이었습니다. 그래서, 그 소식을 가까운 몇몇 사람들에게만 알리고, 다른 사람들이 교회 행사를 진행하는데 방해가 되지 않게 해야겠다고 마음 먹었습니다. 하지만 제 직장 동료들은 장로와 교회 가족들이 함께 기도할 수 있도록 알리게 해달라고 부탁해왔습니다.For many people who receive bad news about serious illness, their first instinct is to try to handle it on their own. But that is not God's design for the body of Christ. Instead, James instructs us to call the set-apart leaders, bring the people together, confess our sins, anoint with oil, and pray for healing.중병에 대한 나쁜 소식을 들으면, 대부분의 사람은 본능적으로 자기만의 방식으로 그 일을 다루려고 합니다. 그러나 그것은 그리스도의 지체들을 향한 하나님의 계획이 아닙니다. 대신, 야고보는 우리에게 담당 지도자들을 불러 사람들을 모으고, 우리의 죄를 고백하고 기름을 바르며 치유를 위해 기도하라고 가르칩니다.The prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective, and the prayer of faith can help make the sick person well. We believe God can heal ㅡ and often does ㅡ and yet we also know that faithful people can become terribly sick and die.
