"너희는 목도하고 이르기를 여호와께서는 이스라엘 지경 밖에서 크시다 하리라."(말라기 1:5) 

The people of Edom, the descendants of Esau, may have thought they could undo what God had done. They didn't consider themselves God's children, so why would Israel's God pay attention to them?

에서의 자손인 에돔 백성들은 하나님이 하신 일을 자신들이 무효화 할 수 있다고 생각했던 것 같습니다. 그들은 자신들이 하나님의 자녀라 생각하지 않습니다. 그런데 이스라엘의 하나님이 왜 그들에게 관심을 갖겠습니까?

Everyone has times when they'd like to think God isn't paying attention. Even people who believe in God sometimes act as if God doesn't see them. The people of Israel were feeling that way too. God pointed out that he was paying attentionㅡeven to people who didn't believe in him, like the nation of Edom in Israel's day. If God was paying attention to Edom, he was certainly also paying attention to Israel, and he pays attention to us today.  

모든 사람들은 하나님이 자신들에게 관심을 갖고 있지 않다고 생각하려 할 때가 있습니다. 때때로 하나님을 믿는 사람들조차 하나님께서 그들을 못보시는 듯이 행동합니다. 이스라엘 사람들 역시 그렇게 느끼고 있었습니다. 하나님은 고대 이스라엘 시대의 에돔과 같이 믿지 않던 백성들에게도 관심을 기울이고 계셨음을 언급하셨습니다. 하나님께서 에돔에게 관심을 보이셨다면, 이스라엘은 물론이고 오늘날 우리 역시 분명히 관심을 기울이십니다. 

Many nations and people in the world todayㅡin the west, east, north, and southㅡ have a strained relationship with Christ Jesus, the heavenly King of this world. Often we can see with our own eyes the problems caused by not following the one true God of love, joy, and peace. That reminds us that God is paying attention to nations as well as to individuals. He also pays attention to those close to him and to those far away from him. So we should pay attention to God too and serve him as best we can. Thanks be to Jesus that anyone who has wondered from God or who has never known him can find him simply by placing their trust in his Son, Jesus!

오늘날 각처의 많은 나라와 백성들은 세상의 하는 왕이신, 그리스도 예수와 껄그러운 관계에 놓여 있습니다. 우리는 종종 사랑, 기쁨과 평화의 참 왕을 순종하지 않음으로 인하여 야기된 문제들을 우리 자신의 눈으로 감지할 수 있습니다. 그로 인하여 우리는 하나님께서 개인 뿐 아니라 나라에도 관심을 기울이고 계시다는 사실을 기억하게 됩니다. 그는 또한 자신에게 가까운 사람 뿐 아니라 먼 사람조차 관심을 기울이십니다. 그러기에 우리는 할 수 있는 한 최선을 다하여 하나님께 관심을 보이며 섬겨야 합니다. 하나님을 떠나 방황하거나 그를 전혀 모르는 이들이 자신의 아들이신 예수님을 신뢰함으로 하나님을 발견할 수 있게 하신 예수님께 감사드립시다.

Dear God, we are sorry for treating you as if you're not paying attention. You watch over even people who don't know you. Please forgive us and help us to call on you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

존귀하신 하나님, 마치 주께서 관심을 기울이지 않으신 듯이 여긴 것을 용서하소서. 주는 주를 모르는 사람조차 살피십니다. 우리를 용서하시고 주를 부를 수 있게 도와주옵소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
