"I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me." ㅡ  Malachi 3:1 

"내가 내 사자를 보내리니 그가 내 앞에서 길을 예비할 것이요."(말 3:1)

These verse is often connected with John the Baptist, the prophet who came to prepare the way for Jesus. It is even quoted in Mark 1:2. But before it was about John the Baptist, it was about Malachi himself, whose name means "my messenger." The message God sent through Malachi was the answer to Israel's questions about where God was and when he was coming.

이 말씀은 보통 예수님의 길을 예비하기 위해 온 선지자, 세례 요한과 관련이 있습니다. 그것은 마가복음 1장 2절에서도 인용되었습니다. 그러나 그것은 세례요한에 관한 것이기 전에 그 이름이 "나의 사자"를 의미하는 말라기 자신에 관한 것이었습니다. 말라기를 통해 보내신 하나님의 메세지는 하나님의 거처와 그가 임하실 때에 대한 이스라엘 사람들의 질문에 대한 답이었습니다. 

The purpose of Malachi (and John the Baptist) was to prepare the way ahead of the Lord's coming. We've been looking mostly at the main message that God loves his people. But we've discovered along the way that the people were failing in their love for God. Before God came to them, he wanted them to know where they stood with him. They had time to make improvements in their relationship with God, but that time would someday end.

말라기(그리고 세례 요한)의 삶의 목적은 주님의 임하심에 앞서서 길을 예비하는 것이었습니다. 우리는 주로, 하나님께서 백성을 사랑하신다는 중심 메시지를 보아왔습니다. 그러나 백성들은 하나님을 사랑함에 있어 계속 실패하고 있음을 발견했습니다. 하나님은 백성들에게 임하시기 전에 그들이 하나님과 함께 어디에 서 있었는지 알기를 원하셨습니다. 그들은 하나님과의 관계를 개선할 수 있는 시간을 가졌습니다. 그러나 그 시간은 언젠가는 끝이 날 것입니다. 

The same is true for us who await Christ's second coming. What's truly important about being ready for Christ's return is our relationship with him. Are we eager for him to come? I've noticed that the closer I grow to Christ, the more disconnected I become with earthly things. Are there things you are attached to that you have a hard time letting go? Don't assume there will always be time later to straighten your priorities. Now is the time to have our hearts prepared.

그리스도의 재림을 기다리는 우리에게도 마찬가지입니다. 그리스도의 재림을 준비함에 있어서 진정으로 중요한 것은 그와 우리의 관계입니다. 우리는 그가 오시기를 간절히 원합니다. 그리스도께 더욱 기까와질수록 나는 세상 것들과 더 격리된다는 사실을 감지하게 되었습니다. 여러분은 집착으로 인해 내려놓기 어려운 것이 있습니까? 후에 언제든지 당신의 우선 순위를 바로 할 시간이 있을 것이라고 생각하지 마십시오. 지금이 우리 마음을 준비해야 할 때입니다.

Prayer (기도)

Dear Jesus, help us to know you more deeply. May we die to ourselves daily ㅡ our stuff, our relationships, even our identity. Give us a growing dependence on you. Amen.

존귀하신 예수님, 주님을 더 깊이 알 수 있도록 도와주옵소서. 날마다 우리 자신에 대하여 죽게 하소서. 그것들은 우리 것, 우리 관계, 우리 정체성 등입니다. 주께 더욱 더 의존하게 하옵소서. 아멘.
