보라 인내하는 자를 우리가 복되다 하나니 (약 5:11) 

A friend of a friend called me: "Pastor, I can't do this anymore. Would God really want me to suffer like this, day after day, with no relief?" His illness was tormenting him, and he was looking for permission to end his life. He wondered if God would be angry with him.

친구의 친구가 제게 전화해서, "목사님, 더는 이렇게 못 하겠어요. 하나님은 제가 이렇게 안식도 없이 매일 고통받기를 원하는 걸까요?" 그는 고통을 견디지 못하여 자신의 삶을 끝낼 수 있는 길을 찾고 있었습니다. 만일 그렇게 한다면 하나님께서 그에게 노하실까 걱정하면서요.   

Suffering is not God's will. It is part of life in this broken world; God's light has broken into the darkness, but we still long for the complete fulfillment of God's plan. Jesus is coming again to restore everything. Meanwhile, life can be excruciatingly difficult, and weㅡas God's peopleㅡare called to persevere. Hold on tightly to hope.

고통은 하나님의 뜻이 아닙니다. 이 타락한 세상의 삶의 일부일 뿐입니다. 하나님의 빛이 이 어두운 세상을 깨고 오셨지만, 우리는 여전히 하나님의 계획이 완전히 성취되기를 기다리고 있습니다. 주님은 모든 것을 회복시키기 위하여 다시 올 것입니다. 그때까지 우리네 인생은 살을 저미듯이 힘겨울 수 있습니다. 하나님의 백성인 우리들은 그 안에서 견디어 낼 것을 요청받습니다. 희망의 끈을 굳게 붙드시기 바랍니다.

James reminds readers of the perseverance of the prophets and of Job, a man who suffered greatly when he lost all his children, all his possessions, and his health. Yet he did not lose hope or give up. God was there with him and eventually restored his possessions and gave him abundantly more. 

야고보는 독자들에게 선지자의 인내를 상기시킵니다. 또한 자녀, 소유, 건강까지 모두 잃고 큰 고통을 겪은 욥의 인내를 말씀합니다. 그러나 욥은 소망을 버리지 않고 포기하지 않았습니다. 하나님께서는 절망 가운데 있는 욥과 함께 하셨고, 궁극적으로 그의 소유를 회복시켜 주셨으며 더 풍성하게 베풀어 주셨습니다.

The point of Job's story is not that he regained possessions but that he persevered in his faith in God and that God demonstrates compassion and mercy.

욥의 이야기 요점은 그가 소유를 다시 회복했다는 데 있는 것이 아니라, 하나님에 대한 믿음 가운데 인내하였다는 점과 하나님께서 긍휼과 자비를 베풀어 주셨다는 데 있습니다.

This is the only reply I could give to the friend who was almost ready to give up: Your life is precious to God. Hang on until God says it's time to come home.

너의 생명은 하나님께 소중한 것이란다. 이것이 거의 생을 포기할 마음마저 품었던 친구에게 제가 줄 수 있었던 답변입니다. 하나님께서 하늘 본향으로 오라고 부르실 때까지 참고 견뎌야 합니다.

PRAER (기도)

Jesus, you know agony and suffering, and you empathize with us when we struggle to face yet another day of pain and uncertainty. May we feel your loving arms surround us as we push forward. Amen.

예수님, 우리의 번민과 고난을 아시오니 계속되는 고통과 불확실함을 마주하며 살아갈 때에 우리를 불쌍히 여겨주옵소서. 우리가 삶을 계속해 나아갈 때, 사랑의 팔로 우리를 안아주심을 느끼게 하소서. 아멘.
