정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그 환난 중에 돌보고 --- (약 1:22-27) 

According to a recent newsflash, four out of every ten children in our culture are living in homes without their father. Close to half of all children in the United States are being raised by single parents or find themselves part of a "blended" family. The so-called nuclear family consisting of two parents and their children is no longer the norm.   

최근 뉴스에 따르면, 우리 사회 가운데서 열 아동 가운데서 넷이 아버지 없는 가정에서 살아가고 있다고 합니다. 미국에 있는 모든 아동의 절반 가까이가 싱글 부모에 의해 양육되고 있거나 [재혼을 통해] "섞인" 가정의 일원으로 살아가고 있습니다. 두 부모와 그들의 자녀들로 이루어지는 소위 핵가족은 더 이상 정상적인 규범이 아닙니다. 

Single parents face many challenges. Single parents have to accomplish on their own what often is a challenge for two parents. Without a partner, however, they need emotional support. Some single parents find themselves deep in debt and often face financial hardship. Some no longer feel accepted by former friends because their partner is gone.

싱글 부모는 많은 도전에 직면해 있습니다. 싱글 부모는 종종 두 부모가 감당하는 도전을 그들만의 힘으로 이루어야 합니다. 그러나 파트너가 없기 때문에 그들에게는 정서적인 지지가 필요합니다. 어떤 싱글 부모는 심한 빚에 쪼들려 있고 자주 금전적인 어려움에 직면합니다. 어떤 이들은 자기들의 파트너가 가버렸기 때문에 이전의 친구들에게 배척받고 있다고 느낍니다.

Single parents need the help of the Christian community. In the Old Testament God made provisions for widows and orphans. James calls us to put our faith into practice by reaching out to them. Had James been writing today, he would have included single parents and their children too. You and I may need to step in and help. Look around in your church for such needs and offer assistance. you can help care for young children, accept single-parent families into fellowship groups, and provide financial assistance. In the church everyone should be accepted and included.  

싱글 부모는 기독교 공동체의 도움이 필요합니다. 구약 성경에서, 하나님은 고아와 과부들을 위한 조항을 만드셨습니다. 야고보는 그런 사람들에게 다가감으로써 우리의 믿음을 실천하라고 우리에게 촉구합니다. 만일 야고보가 오늘날 그 편지를 썼다면, 그는 홀부모와 그들의 자녀들도 포함시켰을 것입니다. 여러분과 나는 그들의 삶에 개입하여 도움을 줄 필요가 있습니다. 그와 같은 필요 가운데 있는 이들이 있는지 당신 교회를 둘러보시고 도움을 제공해 주십시오. 여러분은 어린 아이들을 보살펴주고 홀부모 가정들을 교제의 그룹 안으로 받아들이고 재정적인 도움을 제공해 줄 수 있습니다. 교회 안에서는 모든 사람이 받아들여지고 포함되어야 합니다.

Lord, help us as members of your church to reach out to all who stand alone as they raise their children, and give us all the grace to accept and learn from each other. In Jesus, Amen.

주님, 당신의 교회의 지체들로서 우리가 홀로 견디면서 자녀들을 키우고 있는 모든 사람들에게 손을 내밀 수 있도록 도와주시옵시고, 서로 서로 받아들이고 배우는 은혜를 우리에게 주시옵소서. 예수님 이름으로 기도 드립니다. 아멘.
